Hotel New Grand (Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama) will begin accepting reservations for Christmas limited edition cakes starting October 1st.

The theme for the 2025 holiday season is “Brilliant Holiday”. They will offer a total of 5 types of limited edition cakes including new creations such as “Étoile Marron” (¥8,000, limited to 40 cakes) featuring golden cake with 6 layers of flavors including chestnut cream and passion fruit jelly inside, “Neige Blanche” (¥8,000, limited to 40 cakes) wrapped in green chocolate with two distinct layers of baked cheesecake using domestic cream cheese and rare cheesecake using mascarpone cheese blending together, and the classic “Strawberry Shortcake” (5-inch ¥8,000, 7-inch ¥15,000).

At the hotel’s directly managed shop “S.Weil by HOTEL NEW GRAND” (Yamashita-cho), reservations for “S.Weil’s Bûche de Noël” (¥10,000, limited to 20 cakes) will also begin on October 1st. The “Bûche de Noël” recreates the Christmas cake sold at the French pastry specialty shop “S.Weil” (1951-2011) based on the original recipe. It features smooth, rich buttercream beautifully rolled in caramel coffee-flavored cake, with mocha cream blended with the “S.Weil” brand’s original coffee expressing the realistic texture of a tree stump. The cake is decorated with Christmas-themed ornaments including rabbits, squirrels, and mushrooms made from marzipan and meringue.

Additionally, from December 1st to 25th, they will sell the traditional German Christmas pastry “Stollen” (¥4,000, limited to 70 pieces) without reservations or holds.

The cake sales location within Hotel New Grand is the main building 1st floor coffee house “The Cafe” (10:00 AM – 9:30 PM). Reservation acceptance begins at 10:00 AM on October 1st. Reservations will close once the limited quantities are reached. The pickup period is from December 20th to 25th.

The Cafe

The café as a cultural institution has its roots in 17th-century Europe, with the first coffeehouses opening in cities like London, Paris, and Vienna. These establishments quickly evolved from simple purveyors of coffee into vibrant social hubs where people gathered to discuss politics, literature, and news, fostering the exchange of ideas that shaped the Enlightenment. Today, the café remains a central meeting place in communities worldwide, serving as a backdrop for both social interaction and solitary work or reflection.
