On October 19, the right-line tunnel section of Chongqing Rail Transit Line 15 Phase II construction project, spanning from Chongqing City Management Vocational College Station to Chongqing University of Science and Technology Station, was successfully completed. This marks the full connection of the entire Rapid Rail Line 15, laying a solid foundation for subsequent completion and operation.
The completed right-line tunnel section spans approximately 3,412 meters, primarily passing through sandstone and sandy mudstone formations. During construction, the tunnel boring machine needed to continuously pass beneath dense high-rise building foundations and closely bypass multiple important structures and municipal pipelines. The construction faced particularly high risks when crossing under an existing operational 500kV ultra-high voltage power transmission line. The project team utilized a large-diameter earth pressure balance shield machine with a diameter of 8,780 millimeters, achieving precise completion through real-time geological monitoring and careful adjustment of tunneling parameters.
As the first rapid rail line in Chongqing’s central urban area, Line 15 runs from Zengjia Station in the west to Liangjiang Film Studio Station in the east, with a total length of approximately 72 kilometers. The line features 25 stations and has a maximum operating speed of 140 kilometers per hour.
The Phase I project spans about 39 kilometers with 14 stations. On September 5, the Phase I project completed its final rail connection, achieving full track connectivity. The project has now entered the electromechanical installation and system debugging phase, with official operation expected by the end of June next year. The Phase II project primarily serves to rapidly connect the Science City, University Town, and other areas with the central valley across different urban clusters.
Upon full completion, Rail Transit Line 15 will rapidly connect three major valleys, linking transportation hubs including Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport Terminal T3 and Fusheng High-Speed Rail Station. This will further optimize the city’s functional layout and accelerate the integration process of the main urban area.
