Currently, there are four greenhouse complexes operating in the Khabarovsk Territory where vegetables are grown even in winter. However, local producers cannot yet fully meet the population’s demand for this product – the region’s self-sufficiency level is only 32 percent. Hence the price fluctuations depending on the season.
– The production volume of vegetables in year-round greenhouse complexes in the Khabarovsk Territory for 2024 amounted to 3,612 tons and increased by 19 percent compared to 2023. Meanwhile, the annual population demand for this product, according to expert estimates, is 180 thousand tons per year, – state data from the regional government documentation.
To keep vegetables affordable throughout the year and make them as independent of seasons as possible, authorities plan to increase planting areas and build greenhouses. There is, for example, a major investment project
– The proposed standard project involves the construction of a greenhouse complex with an area of 4.5 hectares. The investment volume includes design and survey work, infrastructure connection, building construction and facility renovation, procurement of technological and special equipment. It should be noted that project costs may increase depending on the actual location, – explained the government.
There are also plans to increase potato planting volumes by developing unused lands. For example, a suitable plot exists near Elban.
– To attract investors, including foreign ones, an investment proposal has been formed for developing over 8 thousand hectares in the Elban settlement area. The possibility of using these lands for creating a livestock feed base, as well as for growing potatoes and borscht set vegetables, is being considered, – previously stated the regional government.
