The Banten Provincial Government has issued a policy prohibiting the use of fireworks and firecrackers ahead of the 2026 New Year celebration.

This policy was issued as an effort to maintain public order, security, and the safety of the community across the entire Banten Province region.

The prohibition is outlined in the Banten Governor’s Circular Letter Number 73 of 2025 concerning the Prohibition on the Use of Fireworks and Firecrackers Ahead of the 2026 New Year Celebration in the Banten Province Region.

In the circular letter, the public is urged and prohibited from using, igniting, trading, or storing fireworks and/or firecrackers of any form or type.

This rule applies both in the lead-up to and during the 2026 New Year celebration.

“This policy is intended to create a situation of security and public order that remains conducive,” it was stated.

Furthermore, the prohibition also aims to avoid potential safety hazards, fires, and accidents that often occur due to the use of firecrackers, especially in residential areas.

It was also emphasized that this prohibition has a broader social meaning as a form of empathy and humanitarian solidarity for the disaster victims in the Sumatra region.

Instructions were given to all Regents and Mayors throughout Banten Province to follow up on this policy in their respective regions and to carry out massive public outreach.

Local governments are also requested to coordinate with the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), Polri (Indonesian National Police), and relevant regional apparatuses for the purpose of supervision and enforcement of public order.

“In addition, district heads, village heads, community leaders, religious leaders, and youth leaders are expected to play an active role in providing understanding to the community,” it was explained.

Banten Province

Banten Province is a region on the western tip of Java, Indonesia, historically significant as the site of the powerful 16th-century Banten Sultanate, a major Islamic kingdom and a thriving pepper-trading port that rivaled Dutch-controlled Batavia. Today, it is known for its important historical and religious sites, such as the Great Mosque of Banten and the ruins of the Surosowan Palace, alongside modern industrial zones and the popular coastal area of Anyer.

Sumatra region

The Sumatra region is a vast Indonesian island renowned for its immense biodiversity, including tropical rainforests that are home to unique species like orangutans and Sumatran tigers. Historically, it was a significant hub for trade and powerful kingdoms, most notably the Buddhist Srivijaya Empire which dominated maritime Southeast Asia from the 7th to the 13th centuries. Its cultural landscape is shaped by diverse ethnic groups, such as the Minangkabau and Batak, and its history includes later periods of Islamic sultanates and European colonial influence.
