South Tangerang Mayor Benyamin Davnie.

The Mayor of South Tangerang (Tangsel), Benyamin Davnie, confirmed that the piles of garbage at several points in the Tangsel area have been handled.

The garbage accumulation at certain points included areas in front of Cimanggis Market, the Ciputat Market corridor, Pamulang, up to Serpong Main Road.

Benyamin acknowledged that the garbage accumulation was not without cause. However, he confirmed that the accumulation has now been resolved.

“It was caused because our cooperation could not be optimal yet, but now inter-regional cooperation with areas around Tangsel City can be optimal, so we can carry out final processing at the location of that regional cooperation,” he said.

Benyamin said accumulation also occurred because the Cipeucang Landfill could no longer serve as one of the final processing sites in the city.

“Because Cipeucang can no longer accommodate new garbage. We have to manage the old garbage there. Our target there is to use very high technology,” he stated.

Nevertheless, Benyamin confirmed that garbage piles will no longer occur. Moreover, new garbage or waste generated in the city can now be transported maximally by the waste transport fleet.

“Yes, in the last two or three days, including here, everything has been transported. Because we have 27 garbage trucks owned by the Tangsel Municipal Government and 42 contracted trucks with third-party transporters,” he said.

Benyamin also stated he would take concrete steps. One of them is by increasing the waste transport fleet.

“Later, perhaps more will be added in the upcoming regional budget revision, because we need a lot of garbage trucks. At least 100 garbage trucks are needed for transportation,” he added.
