The prices of several staple goods at Sidikalang Central Market in Dairi Regency, North Sumatra, have increased, particularly for chilies and onions.

According to the price list issued by the Dairi Regional Market Company (PD Pasar Dairi) on Wednesday (6/8/2025), red chili, green chili, and bird’s eye chili have seen price hikes. The same applies to shallots, garlic, and tomatoes.

There has been no official explanation for the price increase. However, weather conditions and distribution issues are often the main causes of price fluctuations for food commodities in traditional markets.

The management of PD Pasar Dairi has urged the public to shop wisely and avoid panic buying.

“This appeal aims to maintain price stability and supply availability in the market,” they stated.

Currently, the supply of staple goods remains sufficient. Prices may vary due to several factors, including size, quality, and brand.

“Staple goods prices can also change at any time,” they added.
