Medan –
Former Metro Jaya Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General (Ret.) Raziman Tarigan died after an accident while riding an ATV or four-wheeled motor vehicle in Medan. The investigation into this accident is still being carried out by police officers.
The incident occurred on Jalan Melati Raya, Medan Selayang District, on Saturday (April 18, 2026) in the afternoon. The location was only a few meters from Raziman’s business premises.
Here are 5 things related to the accident that killed the former Deputy Commander of the Brimob Police Corps:
1. Victim Was Riding an ATV
An eyewitness named Joko (45) said the accident happened around 6:15 PM local time. At the time of the incident, Joko was selling goods, right in front of Raziman’s business.
Joko admitted he did not directly see the moment of the accident because he was busy packing up his merchandise. However, he suddenly heard a loud impact sound.
Startled, Joko turned toward the sound and saw Raziman lying on the ground and the ATV he was driving had overturned. Joko said he immediately recognized that the accident victim was Raziman as soon as he saw the ATV. This was because Raziman often went out riding that ATV.
“He was riding the ATV, alone,” Joko said during an interview on Wednesday (April 22).
2. Head Injury with Bleeding
As far as Joko knew, Raziman had just returned from buying food. Because at the time of the incident, the food was also scattered on the road.
Joko, along with several other residents, helped Raziman. In his view, Raziman suffered an injury to his head.
“His head was bleeding,” Joko said.
3. Vendor Saw a Motorcyclist Speeding
Joko did not know for sure whether the victim was hit or not because he did not directly witness the moment of the accident. However, at the time of the incident, there was a vendor who saw a motorcyclist speeding.
Even so, he could not confirm whether that motorcycle had hit the victim or not.
“Yes, I don’t know (hit or not), but there was indeed a motorcycle speeding, but that’s just a suspicion, we cannot confirm it yet,” he concluded.
4. Police Collecting CCTV Footage
The Head of Traffic Unit for the Medan City Police, Police Commissioner Widodo, said his team is investigating the accident case. Widodo stated that police officers have found CCTV footage showing the victim riding the ATV.
However, they have not yet found CCTV footage that recorded the moment of the accident.
“We have obtained some CCTV. But later we will sort them again, still looking for other CCTVs closer to the accident location,” Widodo said.
5. Investigating Hit-and-Run Reports
There are circulating reports that Raziman was a victim of a hit-and-run. Responding to this, Widodo said his team could not confirm it yet. Currently, Widodo said, the Sunggal Police Sector is still focused on investigating the case.
“He (Raziman) was indeed riding an ATV. The Sunggal Police Sector is still conducting an in-depth investigation. We are investigating why he (Raziman) could fall, and we also want to investigate his position,” he explained.
