Medan

A group of men allegedly threw stones and molotov cocktails at the North Sumatra Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) building located on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Medan City. Approximately 26 individuals were secured by police officers.

Based on a viral video, CCTV footage from the Transportation Department shows several motorcycle riders in front of the North Sumatra DPRD building. Some of them got off and immediately threw objects toward the DPRD building.

At the time of the incident, there was no demonstration in front of the public building, unlike the previous few days; only a few vendors were selling goods.

After the incident, the perpetrators immediately fled. Shortly after, security personnel were seen running toward the street.

Another video shows several people securing a teenager who was found carrying a molotov cocktail in his bag. This incident is said to have occurred on Saturday afternoon.

The police stated that 26 individuals were secured in connection with the throwing incident.

“(Secured) 26 people,” said the police spokesperson.

He explained that the 26 individuals are still under investigation. The police officer did not provide further details regarding the chronology of the event.

“Yes (still under investigation). I don’t know yet, but clearly 26 people were secured in the throwing case,” he concluded.

North Sumatra Regional Legislative Council

The North Sumatra Regional Legislative Council is the provincial-level legislative body of North Sumatra, Indonesia, established to represent the people and exercise governmental oversight. It was formed following Indonesian independence and the subsequent decentralization of power, operating as a key institution in the region’s modern governance. The council is responsible for creating local regulations, budgeting, and supervising the executive branch within the province.

DPRD

I am unable to provide a summary for “DPRD” as it does not refer to a specific place or cultural site. DPRD is an acronym commonly used for the Regional People’s Representative Council (Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah), which is the legislative body at the provincial and regency level in Indonesia.

Jalan Imam Bonjol

Jalan Imam Bonjol is a major thoroughfare in Jakarta, Indonesia, named after Imam Bonjol, a national hero who led the Padri War against Dutch colonial rule in West Sumatra during the early 19th century. The road is historically significant as it runs through the Menteng area, which was a premier residential district built by the Dutch colonial government in the early 20th century. Today, it is a central artery lined with government buildings, embassies, and commercial establishments.

Medan City

Medan is the capital of North Sumatra, Indonesia, and a major economic hub on the island of Sumatra. Historically, its growth was fueled by the 19th-century tobacco plantation boom, which led to the construction of many colonial-era buildings. The city is known for its diverse cultural heritage, reflected in landmarks like the grand Maimun Palace and the historic Tjong A Fie Mansion.

Transportation Department

The Transportation Department is a governmental agency responsible for managing and regulating transportation systems, rather than a specific cultural or historical site. It typically oversees infrastructure, safety standards, and policy for roads, railways, air travel, and public transit. Its history generally aligns with the expansion of modern transportation networks, often formalized in the 20th century to coordinate growing national and regional mobility needs.
