The Regent of Serdang Bedagai (Sergai), Darma Wijaya, opened the Nagur Cup 2025 football tournament at the Nagur Village football field in Tanjung Beringin Subdistrict on Friday afternoon.
Also present at the event were the Deputy Regent of Sergai, H Adlin Umar Yusri Tambunan; the Tanjung Beringin Subdistrict Head, Nur Chinta Defi Tambunan; the Nagur Village Head, Buyung; the Bagan Kuala Village Head, Sapril, and members of the Subdistrict Leadership Coordination Forum.
The Regent, affectionately known as Bang Wiwik, appreciated the initiative of the Nagur Village Government in organizing this tournament as a form of entertainment and a means of fostering the younger generation.
“Amid the prevalence of negative news, in Sergai we talk about sports. We talk about football. This is extraordinary,” said Darma Wijaya.
He added that the communities of Tanjung Beringin and Melati Village are known as the most orderly and enthusiastic spectators at every match.
“I have visited many fields in Sergai. But the most crowded and safe one remains here. This is proof that our society is becoming smarter,” he said.
The Regent also revealed that the Sergai Regency Government has submitted a proposal for the revitalization of sports facilities to the central government.
“God willing, next year this field will be repaired. The grass will be replaced, the field will be elevated, and made more representative, even if it meets only regency-level standards,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Head of Nagur Village, Ruslan or Buyung, expressed gratitude for the support of the local government.
According to him, the tournament, which is participated in by 16 teams from Sergai and outside the region, serves as a means to strengthen relationships and keep the younger generation away from negative influences.
“Winning and losing are common. What matters is sportsmanship and teamwork,” Buyung advised.
The opening match was intense, with Beringin Jaya FC defeating Mutiara FC with a score of 3-1.
The event continued with an exhibition match, where PS Dambaan, strengthened by the Regent and Deputy Regent, successfully won decisively 3-0 against the Tanjung Beringin All-Star Team.
The tournament is scheduled to run for several weeks and is expected to become an annual event that the people of Nagur and surrounding areas can be proud of.
