SMA Muhammadiyah I Depok, located on Jalan Raya Sawangan, Pancoran Mas, has only accepted four new students for the 2025/2026 academic year.
According to reports, the school should be able to accommodate up to 29 students per class.
“Based on the data, there were five applicants, but so far, only four students have arrived at the school,” said a school representative.
This situation is very different from the number of students in grades XI and XII.
“The upperclassmen mostly have around 20 students. Currently, grade XI has 29 students, as far as I know. Grade XII has about 27 students,” the representative added.
During the new student enrollment period, the school received five registration files. However, one student has never attended school to this day.
As a result, only four students are participating in the grade X classes.
The decline in student numbers is likely due to changes in government policies, particularly regarding public school class quotas.
“The difference now might be due to the new regulations for public high school enrollment. The schedule was delayed, and the class quotas were increased. As far as I know, it’s now 50 students per class, whereas last year it was only 40,” the representative explained.
They hope the West Java Provincial Government will evaluate the new student selection system (SPMB) applied in public schools.
“I hope there will be a solution from the West Java Provincial Government regarding this year’s SPMB, as it has negatively impacted private schools,” the representative concluded.
