BEKASI CITY – The Bekasi City Government is anticipating potential security disruptions following plans for public demonstrations by prioritizing a coordinated and dialog-based approach. This step is taken in response to a number of riots that have occurred in various regions recently.

The Mayor of Bekasi expressed appreciation and understanding for the aspirations conveyed by the public. He affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that the expression of opinions is conducted in a conducive manner.

“Of course today we fully understand what the hopes and desires of the Indonesian people are. Certainly, in the context of conveying aspirations and expressing desires, it should be done as well and as conducive as possible,” he stated on Saturday afternoon.

He also highlighted the importance of internal improvements within the institution of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in handling demonstrations. He emphasized that law enforcement should not only be applied externally, but also against individuals who violate the code of ethics in handling protesters.

“Certainly, there are things that must also be improved regarding the Polri institution, and related to not only enforcing the law externally, but also internally, if there are indeed violations related to the code of ethics, related to the handling patterns carried out by our brothers and sisters who are demonstrating, so that hopefully there will be improvements and it can be accepted by the public,” he explained.

Specifically, the Mayor revealed the anticipatory steps that had been started since the morning, one of which was holding a joint prayer with religious scholars.

“Anticipation started this morning; we, along with religious scholars, recited prayer chants so that this nation recovers soon, this nation rises up soon. I truly believe that this trial will be overcome in the context of an advanced Indonesia, a brilliant Indonesia, a glorious Indonesia,” he said.
