A new chapter is about to be added to the history of Indian Railways. It was announced that the country will get its first bullet train on August 15, 2027.
In a humorous tone, it was stated that people should buy their bullet train tickets now, as the bullet train will arrive next year. It was clarified that the government is working with full seriousness to complete the project within the set timeline.
It was also announced that the complete testing and certification of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train has been finished. Its first proposed route is Guwahati-Kolkata. The first Vande Bharat Sleeper train on this route will be flagged off in the coming days. This is a major milestone for the railways.
It was further stated that the Vande Bharat Sleeper train will provide passengers with world-class facilities, safety, and a modern travel experience on long-distance overnight journeys.
Last November, the progress of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor was reviewed. For this, a visit was made to the Surat bullet train station, where interactions were held with the engineers and staff working on the project.
A related video also surfaced, showing a detailed inspection of the work at Surat station. During this, conversations were held with engineers and staff.
Inquiries were made about whether any difficulties were being faced in the work and how efforts were being directed to make the project a success. During this, the staff conveyed that work was being carried out with full diligence and attention to detail at every level.
The hard work of the staff was appreciated, and it was stated that this project is a matter of pride not just for Gujarat but for the entire country. The high-speed train project is a crucial step in modernizing the country’s transport system and will provide passengers with faster and more convenient travel.
Indian Railways
Indian Railways is a state-owned national railway system, founded in 1853 during British colonial rule with the first passenger train running between Bombay (Mumbai) and Thane. It has since grown into one of the world’s largest rail networks, spanning over 67,000 km and serving as a vital economic and social artery for modern India, connecting millions of people daily across diverse regions.
Vande Bharat Sleeper train
The Vande Bharat Sleeper is an upcoming, upgraded version of India’s flagship Vande Bharat train series, designed for overnight long-distance travel. It builds upon the success of the existing chair-car models, incorporating modern passenger amenities and enhanced safety features. While not a historical site, it represents a significant evolution in Indian Railways’ mission to provide high-speed, comfortable sleeper services across the country.
Guwahati-Kolkata
“Guwahati-Kolkata” refers to the major transportation and cultural corridor connecting Guwahati, the largest city in India’s Assam, with Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Historically, this link was vital for trade and administration during the British colonial era and remains a crucial route for the economic and cultural exchange between Northeast India and eastern India. The corridor symbolizes the deep historical ties and ongoing integration between these two distinct regions of the country.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is an under-construction, 508-kilometer bullet train line in India, which will be the country’s first high-speed rail network. Based on Japanese Shinkansen technology, the project was officially launched in 2017 following an agreement between India and Japan. Once completed, it aims to significantly reduce travel time between the two major cities from about 7 hours to approximately 2 hours.
Surat bullet train station
Surat bullet train station is a modern railway station in Surat, Gujarat, India, serving as a major stop on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor (commonly known as the bullet train project). Its construction, part of a landmark Indo-Japanese partnership initiated in the 2010s, represents a significant step in India’s transportation infrastructure, designed to drastically reduce travel time between major economic centers. While the station itself is a new development, the city of Surat has a rich history as a centuries-old global diamond and textile trading hub.
Gujarat
Gujarat is a state in western India with a rich history dating back to the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, including the archaeological site of Lothal. It is renowned for its vibrant cultural heritage, including traditional dance (Garba), textiles, and as the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. The region also features significant architectural sites, such as the stepwells of Patan and the Somnath Temple.
