FPT reduces workforce for the first time after years of continuous growth
FPT Corporation (FPT) has announced its audited financial report for 2025, in which a notable detail is the change in workforce size after many years of continuous growth.
Specifically, according to the consolidated report, as of the end of 2025, FPT had 54,110 employees, a decrease of nearly 540 people compared to the 54,646 personnel at the end of 2024.
This is a rare instance where this leading technology group has recorded a workforce decline after nearly a decade of non-stop expansion.
Previously, FPT’s labor force grew steadily each year: from 25,322 people in 2017 to 27,843 in 2018, 28,781 in 2019, then accelerated strongly to 30,651 in 2020 and 37,180 in 2021.
The upward trend continued in subsequent years, with 42,408 personnel in 2022, 48,162 in 2023, and peaking at 54,646 by the end of 2024.
The reduction in workforce size last year also sparked some information suggesting FPT is facing competitive pressure from AI in its outsourcing segment.
In fact, an FPT leader had to speak out on a personal page in response to the spreading rumor that “FPT cut 26,000 staff in just 15 months.” This person confirmed this was misinformation and stated that many units that posted this content later had to remove it.
How is FPT facing competition under pressure from AI?
In the recently published annual report, the Chairman of FPT mentioned AI quite a lot in his message to shareholders.
According to him, the world is undergoing profound upheavals, unprecedented severe challenges. War, energy shortages, inflation, supply chain disruptions, falling stock indices…
Businesses, organizations, and even nations must face a harsh “new normal” state, where stability is no longer a given. But it is precisely this “new normal” state that is reviving a new strength.
We are standing before a “technology tsunami,” at the center of which is AI, according to the Chairman.
He also said “AI is developing like a storm.” This technology is not only changing the way we live, work, and communicate, but also reshaping how businesses operate, how organizations are governed, and how nations compete.
To not be left behind in the AI era, businesses and organizations, according to FPT’s Chairman, are forced to solve three survival problems: time, cost, and labor productivity.
He is also confident that FPT possesses some competitive advantages that not many businesses have. First is a large technology workforce.
“With tens of thousands of engineers working around the world, this is the crucial resource for FPT to deploy large-scale, multi-year technology transformation programs for global clients,” he said.
But in the new technology era, it’s not just about quantity but also about excellence. With over 54,000 personnel working in more than 30 countries, including over 4,000 international experts from 82 nationalities, he said “FPT is gradually building a global, diverse technology team capable of deploying complex problems on a large scale.”
The Chairman of FPT shared more details about the AI development strategy – something that has caused concern and skepticism among many shareholders recently.
