Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law strengthening criminal liability for violations of foreign agent legislation. The document has been published on the official legal information portal.

The adopted law removes the requirement for a foreign agent to commit two administrative offenses within one year to face criminal liability under Article 330.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (“Evasion of duties under Russian Federation legislation on foreign agents”).

Now, after a single violation of Article 19.34 of the Administrative Offenses Code (“Violation of foreign agent activity procedures”) or if there’s a prior conviction for a similar crime, foreign agents could face up to two years of imprisonment.
