On Monday, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya apologized for the sudden interruptions in electronic payment services at some commercial banks, attributing them to the very high volume of transactions.

This came in a statement on Tuesday, beginning with greetings to the Libyan people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, and expressing gratitude to banking sector workers for their efforts in distributing local and foreign cash liquidity to citizens through bank branches across the country, despite the challenges and difficulties faced by banks in the distribution process due to the addition of salaries for April and May to citizens’ accounts during May, which amounted to about 13.2 billion dinars, in addition to the wife and children allowance of 1.7 billion dinars, as well as commitments from government and private sector entities, salaries for the Social Solidarity Fund, imams, and Quran memorizers, along with public and private companies working for their own account, which totaled nearly 4.8 billion dinars, bringing the total amount to about 20.0 billion dinars.

It was explained that the number of transactions at point-of-sale terminals on Monday reached 2 million operations across 67,000 point-of-sale terminals. The Central Bank apologizes on behalf of commercial banks for this sudden interruption, which has been resolved and services restored to normal.
