TANGERANG – The Communication and Information Office (Diskominfo) of Tangerang City held the Community Information Group Festival (KIM Fest) on December 3–4, 2022. The festival, which took place at Ahmad Yani Square, was noted to have low attendance.

One visitor, Eko Setiawan, attributed the low turnout to insufficient publicity, making the event seem forced.

“Maybe it wasn’t promoted enough. That’s why it’s quiet. A lot of people came, but their main purpose was exercising, not attending the festival,” said Eko on Sunday (December 4, 2022).

A takoyaki vendor, known as Bu Nur, shared a similar view. She mentioned that since the opening day on Saturday (December 3, 2022), most visitors were there primarily for exercise.

“It’s been quiet since the opening. People just came to exercise, not to buy anything. Almost all vendors suffered losses, especially those selling perishable goods. A lot went to waste,” she said.

Aside from poor promotion, she also felt the festival seemed hastily organized and unprepared. She compared it to other successful festivals in the area.

“We were informed at the last minute. We only got the notice a day before the event,” she said.

“It seems like there wasn’t enough publicity, so it’s been quiet since yesterday. Even though it was held on a weekend, it should’ve been crowded. The Sipon Cisadane festival, for example, stays busy even on weekdays,” she added.

The Head of the Information Dissemination and Public Communication Division at the Tangerang City Communication and Information Office (Kominfo), Yunita Virdianti, acknowledged that the 2022 KIM Fest would be evaluated.

“Nothing is perfect. We faced many challenges since October leading up to today. Later, stakeholders will provide feedback and suggestions for future KIM Festivals,” she said.

Yunita explained that KIM Fest was part of a series of events since October. The festival involved community information groups spread across 13 districts, comprising 88 KIMs throughout Tangerang City.

“We collaborated with six universities, deploying students to assist the KIMs. After that, we conducted training sessions, both large and small-scale, across each KIM,” she elaborated.

She further stated that KIMs act as government agents to disseminate information within communities. Their role includes promoting local potential, such as supporting MSMEs through information and communication technology.

“Hopefully, next year, the festival will gain more recognition. We also hope KIM members remain motivated in carrying out their duties in their respective areas,” she added.
