The face of Margonda Road, the heart of Depok City, is undergoing a significant transformation. Since Thursday morning, the Depok City Environment and Hygiene Service (DLHK) has initiated the ASRI City Beautification Movement, a collaborative action combining environmental conservation with urban art.

Under the command of the Environmental Management and Conservation Division, this action deploys full force, consisting of the Park Team, Tree Team, and the tactical cleanliness team known as the Maung Team, to comb through neglected spots along this main route.

Synergy of Art and Conservation: Fighting Vandalism with Murals

One of the main highlights of this movement is the effort to restore public spaces from acts of vandalism. Instead of leaving city walls covered in wild scribbles, DLHK partnered with mural communities to carry out artistic interventions.

“We strive to present urban beautification actions whose beauty can be directly felt by the senses. Spaces that were previously neglected are now transformed to be more attractive and aesthetic,” said the Head of the Environmental Management and Conservation Division.

In addition to murals, the aesthetics of road medians are enhanced through:

  • Visual Refresh: Repainting median gardens and installing decorative ornaments themed for the 27th Anniversary of Depok City.

  • Vegetation Reinforcement: Planting new trees at several strategic points to increase the green index and lower the micro-temperature in the highway area.

Cleanliness Patrols and Control of Illegal Banners

To ensure the results of the arrangement remain maintained, the joint team also conducts thorough cleaning operations. These patrols target illegal banners that disrupt aesthetics (visual pollution) as well as cleaning residual waste along the sidewalks.

This step is taken to create a standardized urban order that is orderly, clean, and provides a sense of comfort for every driver or pedestrian passing through the Margonda area.

Commitment to Sustainable Environmental Management

The Acting Head of DLHK Depok City emphasized that the ASRI Movement is not merely a momentary ceremonial agenda. Support from various environmental enthusiast communities shows a collective awareness to maintain public spaces sustainably.

“Thankfully, this collaboration is running smoothly. We hope this good action can remain consistent and provide real benefits for all residents of Depok,” she stated.

Through the ASRI Movement, DLHK Depok strives to prove that modern city planning must go hand in hand with environmental innovation and the involvement of creative communities. This initiative is hoped to be a stimulus for other areas in Depok City to start adopting the concept of green, orderly, and humane urban planning.

ASRI City Beautification Movement

The ASRI City Beautification Movement was a major urban renewal and public works campaign launched in the Soviet Union in the 1930s. It aimed to transform cities by constructing wide avenues, grand public buildings, parks, and metro systems, primarily to showcase the power and ideology of the socialist state. This movement fundamentally reshaped the urban landscape of many Soviet cities, leaving a lasting architectural legacy often characterized by Stalinist neoclassicism.

Maung Team

“Maung Team” is not a widely recognized historical or cultural site. It is possible the name refers to a local or lesser-known location, or there may be a spelling variation. Without more specific context, it is not possible to provide a meaningful summary.

27th Anniversary of Depok City

The 27th Anniversary of Depok City commemorates the date in 1999 when Depok, located in West Java, was officially granted its status as an independent city, separating from the Bogor Regency. This milestone celebrates Depok’s rapid transformation from a historic colonial-era settlement into a major modern satellite city and university center near Jakarta.
