Depok Badminton Team Advances Strongly, Secures Ticket to 2025 West Java POPDA Semifinals
Great news comes from the XIV West Java Regional Student Sports Week (POPDA) 2025 arena in Bandung Regency. The Depok City men’s badminton team performed fiercely and immediately secured a spot in the semifinals.
Since the preliminary rounds on September 16–17, the Depok squad has been almost unstoppable. They swept all their matches clean, proving their dominance and champion mentality from the start of the competition.
The team manager stated on Thursday.
Two men’s singles players, Christian Caleb and Rifqy Ardiansyah, performed brilliantly, contributing crucial points. Meanwhile, the star doubles pair, Aldi Akram Setiawan and Al Fath Favian Devara, remained undefeated throughout the group stage.
Next, Depok will face Garut Regency in the semifinals. This match is predicted to be intense, as Garut also has a lineup of athletes with strong technique and stamina.
The manager emphasized, “Garut is not an easy opponent, but we are ready to fight with everything we have for the good name of Depok.”
On the other hand, the journey of the Depok women’s team ended earlier. They had to acknowledge the superiority of Sumedang Regency and Bandung City, although they managed to steal one point against Purwakarta.
However, Depok’s badminton campaign is not over yet. Several representatives are still competing in individual events, including Christian Caleb in men’s singles, Joanne Purusatami Putri Handoko and Alya Zafira in women’s singles, and the men’s doubles duo Al Fath Favian Devara and Aldi Akram Setiawan.
The manager remains optimistic that his athletes’ journey can continue successfully. “We want Depok to show its strength, not only in the team event but also in the individual sectors. The goal is clear: to return home with the best achievements for our beloved city,” he concluded.
