Depok Mayor Dr. H. Supian Suri officially opened the prestigious Depok Mayor 3×3 Nation Cup 2025 tournament at Main Hall D Mall, Margonda Street, Beji District, on Saturday.

In his opening speech, he enthusiastically declared:
“By saying Bismillah, I officially open the Depok Mayor 3×3 Nation Cup 2025 basketball tournament. Good luck in the competition, uphold sportsmanship,” he said, greeted by enthusiastic applause from participants and spectators.

The excitement was palpable from the beginning of the event. Hundreds of young athletes, coaches, and basketball fans from various regions filled the competition area to support their favorite teams.

He also took time to chat with young athletes, providing direct encouragement and motivation. He emphasized that this event is not just a competition, but a means to shape character and the spirit of sportsmanship among the younger generation.
“Winning or losing is part of the process. What’s most important is the spirit of learning, discipline, and maintaining sportsmanship. It is through tournaments like this that the character and potential of young athletes are formed,” he said.

The Mayor added that the Depok City Government is committed to making the city a “Sports City” that is open for every young person to develop. National standard events like the 3×3 Nation Cup, he continued, are expected to become a platform for the birth of new talents in the world of basketball.

In addition to competing for prizes and certificates that can be used for academic purposes, this tournament is also packaged with a sportainment concept to create a fun competitive atmosphere. He stated that the presence of such events also brings positive impacts to other sectors such as tourism, culinary, and local MSMEs.

“This tournament consists of four categories: General with 16 teams, U-10 with 12 teams, U-12 also with 12 teams, and U-14 with 16 teams. Matches use a half-competition system so all participants have more playing opportunities,” he explained.

The committee vice chairman revealed that participant enthusiasm this year is very high.
“Approximately 220 teams have registered, ranging from the 10-year-old age category to general category,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of Depok City Basketball Association emphasized that the main goal of this tournament is to produce potential athlete seeds and prepare them to compete at professional level.
“3×3 basketball has become one of the popular sports since the Asian Games, and we want to continue fostering youth interest in this game format,” he said.

He added that they also plan to form junior 3×3 basketball teams up to the U-23 age group as a form of continuous development.
“Depok City Basketball Association wants to ensure every young player has a platform to develop competitively and consistently,” he said.

The total prize pool reaches more than Rp27.5 million. The first overall champion is entitled to Rp15 million, while the second overall champion receives Rp5 million. For age categories, first place winners in each group (U-10, U-12, and U-14) get Rp1.5 million and second place winners get Rp1 million.

With a group-based play-in system and half-competition format, each team is guaranteed to play at least three times. “This format is designed so players get maximum match experience,” he explained.

Also present at the tournament opening included representatives from the Central Basketball Association, Depok City Sports Committee Chairman, Basketball Association Secretary General, Sports Committee Vice Chairman, Depok City Legislative Council member, Youth and Sports Agency Head, as well as organizing committee members and officials.

Through this event, the Depok City Government hopes that the spirit of competition and sportsmanship can grow strong among the younger generation, while encouraging the emergence of future basketball athletes from Depok City.
