A thief in Depok was caught by residents after using a hammer to break through a workshop wall.

A man was caught by residents while attempting to steal a motorcycle at a workshop in Serua, Bojongsari, Depok. The suspected perpetrator has been detained by the police.

The incident occurred on Tuesday (April 21) at 3:00 AM local time at a workshop in Serua. The perpetrator initially broke into a new workshop that contained several motorcycles.

The action was discovered by the workshop owner’s parents due to noise coming from the scene. Upon checking, two perpetrators were trying to enter the workshop.

Residents managed to detain one of the perpetrators. The perpetrator reportedly claimed to have acted alone.

The Bojongsari Police Chief stated that the perpetrator attempted a theft by breaking through the workshop wall using a hammer. The perpetrator was suspected of trying to steal a capacitor discharge ignition or CDI from a motorcycle.

“The attempted theft involved breaking the workshop wall with a chisel and hammer, with the intention of taking the CDI. However, it was unsuccessful, and the person has been arrested,” he said.
