The School Literacy Movement program in Depok has officially been launched by Working Group (Pokja) 2 of the Depok City Family Welfare Empowerment Movement Team (TP-PKK).

This initiative, known as the Gelis Program, promotes the spirit of reading books before learning activities begin.

Two schools in Depok—SDN Rangkapan Jaya Baru in Pancoran Mas and SMP Tunas Bangsa Depok Center School (DECES) in Cilodong—have been designated as pilot schools for this literacy program.

The School Literacy Movement (Gelis) is a concrete step toward encouraging increased reading interest among students in Depok.

Through the Gelis Program, it is hoped that a reading culture in schools can be nurtured from an early age.

It was emphasized that both schools have committed to consistently implementing the Gelis Program.

“They will encourage their students to read books before teaching and learning activities begin,” it was explained.

The program will not stop at these two schools; it is planned to expand to all elementary and junior high schools in Depok.

Each school will implement the program according to its own capabilities and characteristics.

Full support from schools is key to the success of this movement. Students are expected to enjoy reading activities without pressure, but with enthusiasm and joy.

“The hope is that literacy culture will continue to strengthen among students,” it was concluded.
