BANDUNG CITY – The Bandung City Government is awaiting the results of the opening of tender documents for the management of Bandung Zoo. This process will determine the future of one of the region’s tourism and conservation assets, which is now being prepared for management through a cooperation scheme with the private sector.

The Mayor of Bandung stated that all participant documents have been submitted and are entering the evaluation stage. He hopes the auction process runs smoothly and produces a winner that meets all the specified requirements.

“All documents have been submitted and will be opened. We just have to wait. I’m also nervous. Today the documents are opened, just waiting. The announcement will be tomorrow. It must not fail; there must be a winner,” he said on Monday, June 8, 2026.

He revealed that the success of the tender is important because failure of the auction process could potentially lead to consequences for the management status of Bandung Zoo. According to applicable regulations, the Bandung Zoo area can be taken over by the Ministry of Forestry if there is no qualified manager.

According to him, besides involving operational sustainability, the tender also offers a substantial cooperation value. The government has set a fixed annual contribution of Rp4.6 billion from the manager, plus a profit-sharing scheme of 10 to 20 percent for the Bandung City Government.

He explained that all development investment needs for the area will be the full responsibility of the winning bidder. Under this scheme, the government does not need to allocate development funds, while regional assets can still grow through private investment.

“The contract per year is Rp4.6 billion. Then there is a profit-sharing of 10 to 20 percent for the city government. Meanwhile, 100 percent of the development investment is borne by the winning bidder,” he said.

He added that the amount of the cooperation value has been reviewed together with the Supreme Audit Agency and the Ministry of Finance, to ensure optimal utilization of regional assets while providing economic benefits for the city of Bandung.

Beyond the business aspect, the new manager is also required to meet several conservation requirements, including having a license for an ex-situ conservation institution and an Environmental Impact Analysis document.

“It is hoped that all stages of the tender will run smoothly so that Bandung Zoo can soon enter a new chapter of more professional, modern management that remains committed to wildlife conservation efforts,” he said.
