OpenAI’s head of international affairs stated that they would voluntarily comply with the new AI executive order.

The order, signed on Tuesday, requests that the latest AI models be submitted for access 30 days before their launch. The order was originally intended to force companies to submit their AI models 90 days before public release. However, changes were made due to public pressure and publicly acknowledged doubts.

OpenAI will submit its next-generation AI models to participate in a benchmarking process to “evaluate the advanced cyber capabilities of AI models and determine at what threshold an AI model should be designated as a ‘covered frontier model’.”

Speaking at SXSW in London, OpenAI’s representative said the organization has actively made suggestions to governments to monitor AI safety and security issues, not only in the U.S. but broadly.
