This morning, September 4, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) successfully energized the 110kV Con Dao substation, serving to supply electricity from the national grid to the Con Dao special administrative-economic zone.

On September 4, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) announced that at 4:05 AM the same day, the group successfully energized the 110kV Con Dao substation, serving to supply electricity from the national grid to the Con Dao special administrative-economic zone.

Previously, at 7:09 PM on September 2, EVN also successfully energized the project to supply electricity from the national grid to the Con Dao special administrative-economic zone. This is a project to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day.

According to EVN, the successful energization of the project has contributed to ensuring a safe, continuous, and stable electricity supply for the special zone, meeting the needs of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security, and improving the lives of the people.

“The national power source will replace local diesel power generation, reduce electricity production costs, limit greenhouse gas emissions, and contribute to fulfilling Vietnam’s commitments on emission reduction and sustainable development.

It affirms the capability to implement large-scale energy projects with modern technology under complex and harsh construction conditions at sea,” EVN stated.

The total investment capital for the project is over VND 4,923 billion, of which VND 2,526 billion is from the central budget, and the remainder is capital from the investor – EVN Group. Project Management Unit 3 is the unit assigned to directly manage the project implementation.

According to EVN, the project has a scale of 110kV power supply, with a total length of 103.7km, including 17.5km of overhead lines, 77.7km of submarine cable, 8.5km of on-island underground cable, and the expansion and construction of substations… The project began construction in December 2024.

On September 3, the Ho Chi Minh City health sector will send seven leading specialist doctors to work in rotation at the Con Dao special administrative-economic zone.

Con Dao

Con Dao is an archipelago off Vietnam’s southern coast, historically known as its “Devil’s Island” for its use as a brutal prison colony during the French colonial era and later the Vietnam War. Today, it is a national park renowned for its pristine natural beauty, including coral reefs and sea turtle nesting sites, while also serving as a significant pilgrimage site for Vietnamese paying respects to those who suffered and died in its prisons.

August Revolution

The August Revolution refers to the 1945 uprising in which the Viet Minh, led by Ho Chi Minh, successfully seized power from the Japanese occupation and the French colonial administration. This pivotal event led to the end of the Nguyen Dynasty and the declaration of Vietnam’s independence, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

National Day

“National Day” is not a specific place or cultural site, but a general term for a holiday commemorating a nation’s independence, founding, or unification. Its history is tied to the significant event it celebrates, such as a declaration of independence or the formation of a republic. For example, France’s Bastille Day (July 14) marks the start of the French Revolution, while the United States’ Independence Day (July 4) celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
