BEKASI CITY – In commemoration of the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the Bekasi City Government, led by the Mayor of Bekasi, along with TNI, Polri, and Bekasi City DPRD officials, held a flower-laying ceremony at Sasak Kapuk, Kaliabang Tengah Village, North Bekasi. This activity was held to honor the struggle of Bekasi’s fighters in defending independence.

The Sasak Kapuk Tragedy occurred on November 29, 1945, when the People’s Militia led by KH Noer Ali together with the TKR led by M. Hasibuan fought to repel allied forces trying to enter Bekasi. Because it was difficult to break through the people’s defenses, the allies finally deployed a large amount of advanced equipment on December 13, 1945, until they succeeded in controlling Bekasi and turning the area into a sea of fire.

The year 2025 is a special moment because after 80 years, the key to Sasak Kapuk has finally been reopened as part of retracing the struggle of the Bekasi people.

The Mayor of Bekasi conveyed that this commemoration is a valuable reflection for the community.

“We are here at the moment of the 80th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia to honor the services of the heroes who fought to defend independence. Bekasi has a long history of struggle, and this must always be passed on to the younger generation,” he said.

Furthermore, the Mayor of Bekasi affirmed that the Bekasi City Government will build a monument at the Sasak Kapuk site as a form of respect and a reminder of history.

“The Bekasi City Government will build a monument at Sasak Kapuk as a symbol of respect and tangible proof that the struggle of Bekasi’s heroes will never be forgotten,” he emphasized.

With the existence of this monument, it is hoped that the younger generation will increasingly appreciate the services of the heroes while strengthening the spirit of nationalism at this moment of the 80th Independence Day.
