Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared glimpses of the Independence Day celebrations after addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Friday. He also expressed the wish that India continues to reach new heights of progress.

In a post on social media platform X, he wrote, “May India continue to reach new heights of progress!” He said it is a great opportunity to remember our freedom fighters and reaffirm our commitment to building a strong, self-reliant India.

During his address on the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi outlined a major plan to make India modern and powerful, combining technological ambition with economic strength.

He said India will now manufacture its first semiconductor chip, develop indigenous jet engines, increase nuclear energy tenfold, and launch a one lakh crore rupee job scheme for youth.

Recalling failed attempts five decades ago, the PM said that by the end of this year, India’s first ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip will be ready, which will showcase India’s technological strength alongside the world’s major countries.

Prime Minister Modi stated that 10 new nuclear reactors are being built to increase nuclear energy capacity tenfold by 2047. This will strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

PM Modi announced GST reforms as a ‘Diwali gift’. This will reduce taxes on essential goods and provide relief to small traders, street vendors, and customers. PM Modi launched the PM Viksit Bharat Employment Scheme, under which youth getting new jobs will receive 15 thousand rupees every month.

This scheme will benefit three crore youth and move from independent India towards prosperous India. A special task force will accelerate reforms, simplify regulations, and achieve the goal of a 10 trillion dollar economy by 2047.

PM Modi spoke for 103 minutes in his longest Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, the longest speech by any Prime Minister. He started at 7:33 AM and finished at 9:16 AM, breaking his 2024 record of 98 minutes.

Prime Minister Modi also broke Indira Gandhi’s record, becoming the second leader to deliver speeches from the Red Fort 12 times consecutively. Only Jawaharlal Nehru is ahead, having delivered 17 consecutive speeches.

Red Fort

The Red Fort is a historic 17th-century fort complex in Delhi, India, built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. It served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors and later became a significant political center for British rule. A symbol of Indian independence, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the site where the Prime Minister gives a speech every Independence Day.
