Dehradun (Uttarakhand): Studying physiotherapy is not just about textbooks. Real learning happens when a student stands before a national-level athlete, assesses their injury, and takes responsibility for getting them back on the court.
Students from the School of Physiotherapy and Allied Health Sciences at SBS University did exactly that, and on a stage where the country’s top athletes were training.
During a training camp organized by the Ice Skating Association of India, physiotherapy students from SBS University provided specialized sports physiotherapy support to 25 national-level athletes. The camp was held at the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Raipur. Under the supervision of faculty members, students conducted injury assessments, prevention strategies, rehabilitation support, and recovery sessions.
The Journey from Classroom to Court
This initiative was part of SBS University’s Extension Activity and Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) program. The university has always aimed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world clinical application. In a high-performance sport like ice skating, athletes’ needs are very specific, which made this experience unique for the students.
Students managed sports-related injuries, improved athletes’ mobility, and enhanced their overall wellness. Applying advanced kinesiology, manual therapy techniques, and sports-specific rehabilitation protocols in a live, high-pressure environment is an experience that cannot be gained in any lab or lecture hall.
A faculty member from the Physiotherapy Department said:
“This hands-on experience at a national-level camp gave our students invaluable exposure. They applied advanced kinesiology, manual therapy techniques, and sports-specific rehabilitation protocols in a live, high-pressure environment. Such experiences greatly advance their clinical proficiency and confidence.”
A Strong Bridge Between Industry and Academia
This collaboration was not only beneficial for the students. The national sporting community also received professionally trained support, and SBS University once again proved that it is not just an institution that grants degrees, but a partner in society and the sports world.
SBS University prioritizes experiential learning in all its programs. By providing opportunities to work with real patients and athletes, the university ensures that its graduates are not only theoretically sound but also practically sharp, exactly as the industry demands.
A 32-year legacy. And there is more to come.
The oldest university in North India. Over 32 years of academic legacy. 11,000+ alumni working at AIIMS, Apollo, Fortis, PSUs, and universities around the world. And now, students providing physiotherapy to national athletes have become part of that same chain.
SBS University’s responsibility has never been limited to the four walls of a classroom. This outreach program is another step in that commitment and a clear sign that the university aims to make its students not just graduates, but impact-makers.
