Focus on Smart Projects Like AI Education, ‘One City One Card’, Solar Energy, and a 107-Meter-Tall Administrative Building
The political atmosphere has intensified regarding the Surat Municipal Corporation election 2026. The Bharatiya Janata Party has released its ‘Sankalp Patra-2026’ (Resolution Document-2026) with the goal of ‘Ab Ki Baar 120’ (This Time 120). Based on the theme ‘New Surat, New Hope’, this manifesto makes several major promises to make the city smart and modern.
Promise of Free Education and an Economic Zone
The manifesto announces a major promise of providing free education from KG to college. Alongside this, a plan has been presented to rapidly develop the Surat Economic Zone and make the city a hub for business and employment. Considering the growing population, a proposal to develop Bardoli as a satellite city is also included.
Focus on Infrastructure and Environment
The BJP has presented a plan for the permanent prevention of creek flooding, development of the Dumas area, and solar projects to make the city self-reliant in terms of electricity. Under solid waste management, there is also talk of implementing new technology to generate carbon-based electricity from waste.
Transformation in Education and Technology
According to the manifesto, the municipality will now also step into the field of higher education. There is a plan to start new colleges with modern subjects like AI, robotics, and drone technology, so that students can get affordable and modern education.
Easier Transport with ‘One City One Card’
A promise has been made to implement the ‘One City One Card’ (Common Mobility Card) scheme to solve the city’s traffic problems. This will make travel on metro, BRTS, and city buses possible with a single card. There is also talk of completing the metro project rapidly.
High-Tech Security and Administrative Development
To strengthen fire safety, a 104-meter-tall aerial ladder platform will be established. In addition, the plan includes implementing a drone surveillance system and constructing a new 107.60-meter-tall administrative building.
Promoting Tourism and Culture
The riverfront project along the Tapi will be expanded. The goal is to promote tourism through Dumas Beach Phase-2 and new theme parks. Schemes related to religious traditions and animal welfare have also been given a place in the manifesto.
Overall, this BJP manifesto is focused on development, technology, and the expansion of basic facilities, which is expected to make the contest in the Surat Municipal Corporation election even more interesting.

Bardoli
Bardoli is a town in Gujarat, India, historically significant as the site of the 1928 Bardoli Satyagraha. This was a major non-violent peasant protest led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel against unfair tax hikes imposed by the British colonial government. The successful movement became a pivotal event in India’s struggle for independence, cementing Patel’s leadership and the power of civil disobedience.
Dumas area
The Dumas area, located in Surat, India, is a historically significant coastal stretch along the Arabian Sea. Historically, the area was also a prominent port and trading center during the Mughal era.
Tapi riverfront
The Tapi Riverfront is a modern urban development project along the banks of the Tapi River in Surat, India. It was inaugurated in 2022 to transform the city’s relationship with its historic river, which has been central to Surat’s identity as a major port and trading hub for centuries. Today, metros are vital to modern city infrastructure, reducing traffic congestion and serving millions of daily commuters worldwide.
BRTS
BRTS stands for Bus Rapid Transit System, a modern public transportation model that uses dedicated lanes and station platforms to provide fast, efficient bus service similar to light rail. It originated in Curitiba, Brazil, in the 1970s as a cost-effective solution to urban congestion and has since been adopted by many cities worldwide to improve mobility and reduce traffic.
107.60-meter-tall administrative building
The 107.60-meter-tall administrative building is the Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang, North Korea. Its construction began in 1987 as a flagship project to showcase national prestige, but it was halted in 1992 due to economic crises, leaving it as an unfinished concrete shell for over a decade. After exterior completion in 2011, it now stands as a prominent, though largely unoccupied, pyramid-shaped skyscraper and a symbol of the country’s ambitions and isolation.
