Addis Ababa, April 27, 2026 Ethiopian runner Tigist Assefa delivered an exceptional performance to win the women’s race at the 46th edition of the London Marathon, retaining her title for the second consecutive year in one of the world’s premier road races.
Tigist Assefa recorded a time of 2:15:41, setting a new world record in the women’s race, an achievement that strengthens her standing among the greatest long-distance runners globally.
Kenyan Helen Obiri finished in second place after a strong competition until the final stages, while her compatriot Joyceline Jepkosgei came in third, completing an all-African podium.
This victory underscores the continued Ethiopian and Kenyan dominance in global marathon races, with Tigist Assefa’s performance considered one of the highlights of the international athletics season.
