Chilakaladona (Andhra Pradesh): At least eight pilgrims, including five women, were killed and ten others injured on Thursday when a goods vehicle collided with a tanker in Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district.

The accident occurred when the pilgrims were traveling to visit the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt in Mantralayam and the vehicle carrying about 20 passengers crashed into the tanker. The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh expressed deep sorrow over the incident and inquired about the condition of the injured.

A police officer stated, ‘Eight pilgrims died on the spot, while several others were injured and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.’ The officer reported that the accident occurred around 3 a.m. on National Highway-167 when the driver, allegedly drowsy, was driving in the wrong direction, leading to the collision.

The injured were first admitted to a nearby hospital, while those critically injured were referred to the Kurnool Government General Hospital for better medical care. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure excellent treatment for the injured and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
