MANILA – Young Filipinos are set to hold an anti-corruption community prayer rally in front of the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, more popularly known as the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila next week.
The Manila Cathedral announced the event, called “Memorare: A Day of Lament and Prayer of Young People,” scheduled for 4 p.m. on Oct. 31.
“With growing awareness and engagement among young people in the call for transparency, accountability, and good governance, let us gather in prayer and discernment, imploring the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Queen of the Holy Rosary, for our country,” the announcement stated.
Organizers urged participants to wear white clothes and/or white ribbons.
The event will be the latest in a series of mass protest actions hosted by various groups amid controversies surrounding flood control projects.
The first rally, called “Trillion Peso March,” was held on Sept. 21, attended by members of several civil society organizations and religious groups, celebrities, and ordinary citizens at Rizal Park in Manila and the People Power Monument in Quezon City.
Recently, a weekly “White Friday Protest” was also launched in some parts of the country by civil society groups, calling for accountability among government officials linked to questionable infrastructure projects.
