Man City come from behind to win 2-1, becoming the first team in history to reach the FA Cup final four times in a row.
Manchester City staged a spectacular comeback to defeat Southampton 2-1 on the night of April 25 in the FA Cup semi-final. This victory makes Manchester City the first team in history to reach the FA Cup final four times in a row.
Against the underdog opponent Southampton, they left many key players like Erling Haaland, Nico O’Reilly, Jeremy Doku, and Bernardo Silva on the bench. Even so, Manchester City dominated with nearly 70% possession and took 24 shots.
But Southampton played resilient defense to keep a clean sheet, and they even surprised everyone by opening the score 1-0 in the 79th minute through Finn Azaz. At that point, Southampton needed just 11 more minutes to become the first first-division team to reach the FA Cup final since Cardiff City did it in 2008.
Unfortunately, “life is not a dream,” they showed their class in decisive moments and scored two goals within five minutes, thanks to Jeremy Doku in the 82nd minute and Nico Gonzalez in the 87th minute, to secure a 2-1 victory.
This win makes Manchester City the first team in history to reach the FA Cup final four times in a row. They will face the winner of the match between Chelsea and Leeds in the final on May 16.
Currently, Manchester City still has a chance to win a “treble” this season. In an interview, coach Pep Guardiola said: “Talking about the treble now is still a long way off. The important thing now is that the players need three days of rest. I told them not to think about football, just rest. Now we start the season with five games, plus the final.”
After a tense collision in the Champions League, Benfica’s young player Prestianni had to pay the price with a heavy disciplinary sanction from UEFA for insulting Vinicius.
