To increase the chances of being admitted to their desired major, candidates should not apply for too few choices, nor should they focus all their applications on a single university.

At an event held in Hanoi on July 19, a student raised a concern: This year, many economics universities have removed the quota allocation by admission method and converted it into a single benchmark score. How should they register their preferences?

In response, an expert explained that this year, all universities will not set quotas by admission method or subject combination but will determine them by major/training program.

During the admission process, the system of the Ministry of Education and Training will automatically select the highest score among the candidate’s methods/subject combinations, ensuring their best benefit.

Therefore, developing a strategy for university preference registration is crucial.

When registering preferences on the national admission system, there are three key principles to follow.

First, preferences should be divided into three groups: safety preferences (where candidates can apply for three choices with majors whose previous benchmark scores were lower than their current results); target preferences (matching their capabilities); and dream preferences (applying for slightly more competitive majors/universities).

Second, candidates should not register too few preferences, as the system imposes no limit. They should research how many choices are appropriate.

“List preferences in order of priority, with the most desired choice first. The system processes them from top to bottom, stopping at the first successful option,” the expert emphasized.

Third, avoid concentrating all preferences on a single university. For example, if interested in economics-business majors, candidates can apply to top-tier, mid-tier, and lower-tier universities to maximize their chances.

From July 16 to 5 PM on July 28, candidates can register, adjust, or add preferences unlimited times. Preferences are ranked from 1 (highest priority) onward.

All preferences will be processed by the system, with each candidate admitted only to their highest eligible choice.

Candidates must complete two steps to avoid disqualification: registering preferences and paying fees for their applications.

After receiving their 2025 high school graduation exam results, candidates should note key deadlines and tasks to avoid missing university or college admission opportunities.
