Hanoi to install automatic fire suppression systems at 12 stations and depot
On July 10, the Hanoi People’s Committee issued Decision No. 3741 approving the investment plan for additional fire prevention and fighting systems on Metro Line 2A (Cat Linh – Ha Dong).
The project involves installing automatic fire suppression systems at 12 stations and the depot. Smoke extraction systems will be added to battery rooms and electrical rooms, with two independent smoke extraction systems to be installed at each station.
With an estimated total investment of over 30 billion VND from the city budget, this Category C project will be implemented during 2025-2026 at 12 elevated stations and the depot along the Cat Linh – Ha Dong urban railway line.
Hanoi Metro Company has been assigned as the project investor, responsible for preparing documentation and coordinating with relevant departments to ensure timely, economical and compliant implementation.
The city government stated the project aims to ensure fire safety for Metro Line 2A, enabling prompt response to fire incidents and emergency evacuation in compliance with Government Decree 136 on fire prevention regulations.
Cat Linh – Ha Dong metro line shows deterioration, requires repairs
The Cat Linh – Ha Dong metro line, Vietnam’s first urban railway, officially entered commercial operation on November 6, 2021.
By June 2025, public reports indicated multiple deteriorating elements including damaged station roof panels, escalator canopies, peeling walkway covers at some stations, and broken tempered glass railings.
Passengers experienced rainwater leakage issues, with some needing umbrellas inside stations or trains during rainfall.
Notably, Yen Nghia Station’s roofing had remained damaged since Typhoon Yagi hit Hanoi in September 2024, with repairs only beginning in June 2025.
Experts expressed disbelief that station canopy damage along the Cat Linh – Ha Dong line remained unaddressed for nearly a year before repair work commenced.
