Eight Palestinians were killed and dozens were injured on Thursday in violent Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the civil defense in Gaza, confirmed that eight people were killed and more than 30 others were injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting homes and residential apartments in Gaza City, north of the strip. He explained that the strikes wiped out an entire family.

Doctors at Shifa Hospital reported that some victims arrived as charred remains, confirming that the condition of a number of the wounded is critical or dangerous, which could raise the death toll.

Negotiations on implementing the second phase of the Gaza agreement remain stalled, while Palestinians believe Israel’s aim with these bloody strikes is to pressure factions to make concessions, including disarming, continuing the war, and failing to adhere to the ceasefire agreement.

Talks are expected to be held in Cairo next week between mediators and Hamas and other Palestinian factions, to push for implementing the ceasefire agreement and moving to its second phase, which includes the issue of disarming factions, the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and mechanisms for reconstruction.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that Hamas must disarm, explaining that actions on this matter will be taken in coordination with the US-led Peace Council.

In response, a Hamas leader affirmed that the movement is in daily contact with mediators, stressing the need to stop Israeli attacks on Gaza.

The leader accused Israel of refusing to stop its attacks, failing to commit to bringing goods and aid into the Gaza Strip, and continuing to expand the areas it occupies, in a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.
