Sabil
A *sabil* (or *sebil*) is a traditional public water fountain found in Islamic architecture, often built near mosques, streets, or markets to provide free drinking water to travelers and locals. Historically, sabils were charitable structures funded by wealthy patrons or rulers, particularly during the Ottoman Empire and Mamluk period, as acts of piety and public service. Many sabils are ornately decorated with intricate tilework, calligraphy, and stone carvings, reflecting the artistic and cultural values of their time.
