Starting in 2026, patients at city clinics will be able to schedule necessary tests and examinations before their doctor’s appointment.

“Patients who currently book appointments online for specific complaints essentially begin their interaction with the clinic at the moment of booking, during the so-called ‘zero appointment.’ Let me give a simple example. A person has knee pain. In such a case, without an X-ray, it is nearly impossible for about a year to determine whether they need to see an orthopedist, a therapist, or if there is nothing more the clinic can do and they need a referral to a day hospital for a planned operation. We have decided that starting next year, for such types of complaints, scheduling for examinations will be opened immediately. Based on the examination results, we can then understand which specialist should handle this patient and, accordingly, refer them to the right doctor.”

It was noted that the ‘zero appointment’ system is already available to all patients who require an in-person visit to the clinic.

городские поликлиники

“Gorodskiye polikliniki” (city polyclinics) are a network of public outpatient healthcare facilities that are a cornerstone of the urban healthcare system in Russia and other post-Soviet states. Historically, they emerged as part of the Soviet model of universal, state-provided medicine, designed to offer free primary and specialized care to the population within their residential districts. While they have faced challenges with modernization and funding, they remain a fundamental and widely utilized institution for non-emergency medical services.
