Tatneft has again filed a lawsuit against Tupolev in the Arbitration Court of Tatarstan. This time the claim amount is 11.7 billion rubles. The exact nature of the case is unknown, but there are speculations.

The oil company filed the lawsuit on October 9, 2025. The claim amount is 11,719,172,800 rubles. The application was accepted for processing the day before, on October 14.

The specific details of the case are not stated in the lawsuit. It is known that Tatneft accuses Tupolev of “unjust enrichment,” demanding an additional 276.1 million rubles in interest on top of the claim amount. The first court hearing will not take place soon – on December 1. The court’s ruling states that the parties can reach a settlement agreement before this date.

However, it’s worth recalling that this is not the first lawsuit by the oil company against the aircraft manufacturer. The first one was almost a year ago, in November 2024. At that time, Tatneft demanded 5.6 billion rubles from Tupolev. It later became known that the case involved those long-suffering Tu-214 aircraft that the Kazan Aviation Plant (KAZ) was supposed to deliver to UVT Aero but failed to do so.

The oil company ordered four aircraft for its airline back in 2022. According to that contract, they were supposed to receive the first two aircraft in 2024, and two more in 2025. It was reported that the plant postponed the delivery of the aircraft by one year, but it appears that even in 2026, UVT Aero likely won’t receive its aircraft.

It was reported that the parties were supposed to reach a settlement agreement. However, later the claim amount increased to 7.2 billion rubles. The plaintiff demanded additional interest on the debt amount and for the use of someone else’s money. Ultimately, the Arbitration Court of Tatarstan ruled in favor of Tatneft.

The court’s decision was as follows: Tupolev must pay 5.6 billion rubles in debt and approximately 500 million rubles in interest. The total amount exceeds 6.1 billion rubles. When reporting on the court outcome, it was suggested that Tatneft might again go to court. And that’s exactly what happened.

It remains unknown when the oil company and its UVT Aero will receive their aircraft. It was reported that commercial airlines won’t see these aircraft before 2027. Meanwhile, back in 2023, media noted that the initial pair of aircraft was supposed to remain in Tatarstan, but it was decided to transfer them to other customers. Therefore, the delivery of Tu-214 aircraft was postponed to 2026.

Aircraft production is progressing far slower than expected. KAZ has been trying to establish serial production of Tu-214 for the fourth year now, but so far only one aircraft has been delivered – to Red Wings airline. New aircraft that will be built will be delivered to state customers. After fulfilling these obligations, the “Tushkas” will appear on regular flights.

But schedule delays please no one. Apparently, this is related to the inspection by the Prosecutor General’s Office at the Kazan Aviation Plant that was reported in the media. Along with supervisory authority employees, external experts from third-party organizations are participating in the inspection. Particular attention is being paid to the work of the enterprise’s former management.
