The Tokai Agricultural Administration Bureau announced yesterday the projected rice harvest for staple food consumption in the three Tokai prefectures for the 2025 crop year.
After increasing in 2018, the harvest yield subsequently declined, but this year it is projected to increase for the first time in seven years. The forecast is for approximately 351,700 tons, which is more than 24,000 tons higher than last year.
The background for this is…
“The planted area for staple food rice has increased.”
While rice shortages caused market prices to soar, it has been reported that approximately 40% of the rice cultivated for livestock feed and other purposes in the Tokai region last year has been converted to staple food use this year. As a result, the planted area for staple food rice has become 72,300 hectares, which is about 4.6% more than last year.
