The legal representative of a female student who was allegedly sexually harassed at SMK Waskito in South Tangerang (Tangsel) has spoken out about the case.
Three months have passed since the report was filed, but the suspect has still not been detained by the police.
“The victim and her family cannot feel at ease as long as the perpetrator remains free. This is psychologically distressing, especially since the perpetrator claims to be ill,” said the victim’s legal representative during a press conference at the Muhammadiyah Building in Tangsel.
The legal representative criticized the slow and prolonged handling of the case by the South Tangerang Police investigators.
Whenever summoned, the suspect has repeatedly cited illness as a reason, preventing the police from conducting further investigations or making an arrest.
“The delay in handling this case risks undermining the victim’s sense of justice, especially since this case has drawn public attention and raised concerns about child protection in school environments,” they emphasized.
The legal representative also revealed the victim’s current condition, stating that she still suffers from deep trauma due to the harassment by her senior.
The victim is described as extremely withdrawn and struggles to interact with others.
Due to the psychological distress, the victim had to transfer schools to recover and distance herself from the environment associated with the incident.
“The victim is still severely traumatized. She finds it difficult to socialize and has chosen to continue her education elsewhere. This is not just a legal matter but also about the mental recovery of a child whose future has been damaged,” they stressed.
The victim’s family hopes the police will take immediate action to detain the perpetrator and expedite legal proceedings to ensure justice is served.
Meanwhile, the South Tangerang Police Public Relations Officer could not provide any statement regarding the detention of the suspected sexual harassment perpetrator when contacted by phone.
