The Provincial Government of Banten will soon open registration for the New Student Admission System for public high schools, vocational schools, and special needs schools for the 2026/2027 academic year.

In its implementation, each educational level applies different selection mechanisms.

This year’s implementation refers to several regulations, including Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Regulations Number 3 and Number 9 of 2025, a circular from the Director General of Early Childhood Education and Primary and Secondary Education, as well as Banten Governor Decree Number 141 of 2026 concerning technical guidelines for the New Student Admission System.

For high school, the selection process is divided into four pathways. The domicile pathway receives a 35 percent quota, divided into 20 percent for the school neighborhood and 15 percent for the regional area.

For the Greater Tangerang area, the maximum distance limit is set at 500 meters, while in other areas such as Serang, Cilegon, Pandeglang, and Lebak, it reaches 1,000 meters.

The achievement pathway has a 30 percent quota, with 25 percent for academic achievement based on report card grades and academic ability tests, and 5 percent for non-academic achievement.

Additionally, the affirmation pathway is also allocated 30 percent for economically disadvantaged families and people with disabilities. Meanwhile, the transfer pathway receives a 5 percent quota for students who follow parents’ job relocations or come from educator families.

Unlike high schools, selection at vocational schools focuses more on a combination of assessments. The average report card grade from the last five semesters carries a weight of 30 percent, the academic ability test 20 percent, and the interest and talent test becomes the largest component with a weight of 50 percent. Prospective students are also allowed to choose two areas of expertise within one school.

Vocational schools are also required to give priority to prospective students from disadvantaged families or with disabilities, around 15 percent, as well as prospective students with the nearest domicile, around 10 percent.

For special needs schools, the registration process is conducted directly or offline by visiting the target school.

The stages of the New Student Admission System begin with pre-registration, which takes place from April 20 to May 31, 2026, through the official website spmb.bantenprov.go.id for initial data validation.

After that, the selection process is carried out in stages according to the chosen pathway.

The school neighborhood domicile pathway is scheduled for June 10 to 11, 2026, followed by the regional domicile pathway on June 17 to 18, 2026. The affirmation pathway takes place on June 22 to 23, 2026, then the academic achievement pathway on June 27 to 29, 2026, and the non-academic achievement pathway on July 2 to 3, 2026. Meanwhile, the transfer pathway is scheduled for July 7 to 8, 2026.

As for general registration requirements, prospective high school and vocational school students must be a maximum of 21 years old as of July 1, 2026, and have completed junior high school education or equivalent.

The registration process for high schools and vocational schools is conducted online through the official portal, while for special needs schools it is conducted directly at the school.
