TANGERANG – Tangerang City recorded positive achievements in the employment sector throughout 2025. According to city government data, the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) is projected to fall to around 5.89 percent in 2025 from its previous position of 5.92 percent in 2024.
This decline in the TPT demonstrates the success of the Tangerang City Government’s efforts to expand employment opportunities and strengthen employment programs summarized in the Gampang Kerja (Easy Work) Program. This includes policies on job training, facilitation of job placement, support for the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, and intensive collaboration with industry players and vocational education institutions.
The success in lowering the TPT is inseparable from targeted and sustainable policy strategies.
“The decline in the unemployment rate in Tangerang reflects employment policies that are not just temporary programs, but are integrated and implemented consistently,” it was stated.
It was noted that the Tangerang City Government does not only focus on absorbing formal labor but also opens space for the development of the informal sector and entrepreneurship as part of job creation.
“Industry needs-based job training programs, regular job fairs, entrepreneurship training. This is not just about placing people in jobs, but also equipping them with relevant skills,” it was said.
Regional Government’s Ability to Manage Potential
The strategic geographical position of Tangerang City as a buffer area for industry and services also provides great opportunities. However, it was emphasized that the main determining factor remains the regional government’s ability to manage this potential through policies that are adaptive and responsive to changes in the labor market.
“That potential must be balanced with programs capable of bridging job seekers and the needs of the industrial world. Tangerang has been relatively successful in this regard,” it was explained.
Digitally-based employment services are also considered to have accelerated the matching process between job seekers and companies, especially through the delivery of more transparent and easily accessible vacancy information.
Appreciation was also given to the leadership role, which in the eyes of observers continues to maintain policy focus on fundamental issues such as employment.
“Employment is a strategic issue because it directly impacts community welfare. The decline in the TPT also shows better social stability,” it was stated.
Nevertheless, it was reminded that future challenges remain, especially amidst global dynamics and changes in economic structure. Therefore, the sustainability and quality improvement of employment programs must be continuously maintained so that the downward trend in unemployment can be sustained and even improved in the following years.
“This decline in the TPT is important, but it is even more important to ensure the quality of jobs and the workforce’s ability to face future challenges,” it was concluded.
With this achievement, the decline in the open unemployment rate in 2025 is considered an important indicator of the Tangerang City Government’s success in driving inclusive economic growth oriented towards the welfare of the wider community.
