Sad news has come from the extended family of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of Banten Province. The Chairman of KONI Banten, Edi Ariadi, who was also the former Mayor of Cilegon for the 2016-2021 term, passed away on Monday morning, September 8, 2025.
Edi Ariadi took his last breath at around 04:35 AM local time at Siloam International Hospital, Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang Regency. The news was confirmed by a KONI Banten administrator.
“Yes, it is true. The information is that he suffered from liver disease and was treated at Siloam Hospital,” the administrator stated.
The administrator added that the deceased was planned to be buried on the same day in Serang City. However, he could not confirm the exact time and location of the burial.
“I also heard from people in Cilegon; the news is that he will be buried today in Serang City,” he said.
The liver disease suffered by the deceased is a general term for disorders of the liver organ that lead to decreased function, including toxin removal and metabolic processing. This disease can be caused by hepatitis virus infection, excessive alcohol consumption, fat accumulation, or genetic disorders.
Additionally, Edi Ariadi was born in Serang on June 8, 1956. Before entering politics, he was a state civil servant.
His bureaucratic career began with several important positions in the Cilegon City Government, eventually being trusted as Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda). His career peaked when he served as Regional Secretary of Cilegon City.
He then entered politics and was elected as Deputy Mayor of Cilegon, accompanying Tb Iman Ariyadi. In 2016, Edi Ariadi officially served as Mayor of Cilegon until 2021.
After that, he was trusted to become Chairman of the NasDem Party Regional Leadership Council (DPW) of Banten Province from 2019 to 2023. His last position was Chairman of KONI Banten, a role he held until before his passing.
