The atmosphere in Jimpitan KB2 Village, Batujaya Subdistrict, Batuceper District, Tangerang City, looked different on Friday. Dozens of residents were seen enthusiastically participating in a hand bouquet making training initiated by the Regional Library and Archives Office of Tangerang City.
This activity is part of the implementation of the Social Inclusion-Based Library Transformation Program, which aims to empower the community through the development of practical skills.
The Head of the Regional Library and Archives Office of Tangerang City explained that this program is designed to address the residents’ need for skills with high economic value. According to them, hand bouquets have become a creative commodity in demand in the market as gifts or souvenirs.
“We present this training to sharpen the creativity of residents while opening opportunities for independent businesses. With varied materials and creative decorations, participants are taught techniques for arranging hand bouquets to have selling value,” they said while reviewing the activity directly at the location.
Library as an Empowerment Space
Furthermore, it was emphasized that the paradigm of libraries has shifted. No longer just a place for reading, libraries are now transforming into inclusive community empowerment centers.
“Through the program, the library serves as a public space for sharing knowledge, honing creativity, and enhancing productive skills of the community. We want the library to become a center for positive activities whose benefits are directly felt by local residents,” they explained.
Observations at the location showed high enthusiasm from the participants. Warm interactions occurred among residents who focused on arranging flower bouquets while exchanging ideas on design development. Some participants even admitted they were optimistic about developing this new skill into promising home-based businesses.
The Regional Library and Archives Office of Tangerang City is committed to continuing to visit libraries in every area with various creative trainings, such as ecoprint and other handicrafts. This step is expected to encourage residents’ economic independence and make the library the pulse of environmental progress.
“Our hope is that the community not only learns but also can create and be productive. This skill is initial capital to open new income opportunities in their own environment,” they concluded.
