Youth Goes on Rampage with Machete, Injures Own Family in Ciledug Tangerang
Residents of Wiru Indah Street, Parung Serab Village, Ciledug District, Tangerang City, were panicked by the actions of a young man who ran amok while carrying a sharp weapon in the early hours of Sunday.
The young man, with the initials RF, 21, is suspected of suffering from a mental disorder and injured several members of his family as well as neighbors.
The incident occurred when RF suddenly acted aggressively by brandishing a machete. Residents who felt threatened then reported the incident to the authorities.
A joint team from the Ciledug Fire and Rescue Unit of the Tangerang City Disaster Management Agency together with the Ciledug Police immediately went to the location to secure the situation.
Based on information from officers, RF is suspected of suffering from severe depression triggered by relationship problems.
In an emotionally unstable condition, he attacked anyone near him, including his own family.
“Information from the family indicates that those injured in last night’s incident include his parents, uncle, and relatives,” stated an officer.
The process of handling the perpetrator took quite a long time and was tense. Officers attempted to calm RF with a persuasive approach to get him to put down the weapon and stop his actions.
However, these efforts were unsuccessful due to the perpetrator’s continued psychological turmoil.
The situation was only brought under control after officers took swift action to disarm the sharp weapon carried by RF using a bamboo pole.
This action was taken to prevent greater risk to the safety of residents and officers.
“We were forced to use bamboo because he was using a dangerous sharp weapon and attacking us indiscriminately. It took almost an hour to calm the young man down,” added the officer.
After being successfully subdued, RF’s hands and feet were tied as a temporary security measure.
Subsequently, he was handed over to his family for further handling.
The family then took RF to a mental hospital to undergo examination and medical treatment.
