CILEGON – The head of the Cilegon Regional House of Representatives urged the Cilegon City Government to maximize training for champions of the Quran Recitation Competition who will be sent to the upcoming Banten MTQ. He called on the Cilegon City Government to target a top-three finish at the Banten MTQ.

“We hope that from the MTQ held in Cilegon City, seeds will emerge that can truly bring the name of Cilegon to the provincial and national levels,” he said to the media.

With the slogan JUARE (Honest, Trustworthy, and Religious) consistently promoted, hopes are high that it aligns with the achievements of Cilegon City.

“The JUARE slogan is hoped to be in harmony with our expectations for the Cilegon City contingent at the Banten Province level. We hope for a top-three finish,” he said.

According to him, the effort to achieve a top-three finish at the Banten MTQ aligns with fostering faith and piety among Cilegon City residents.

“So that the development of faith and piety in Cilegon City can truly be covered under this JUARE slogan,” he stated.

Restoring the Spirit of the City of Santri

He expressed optimism that Cilegon, known as the City of Santri, should be able to restore the fighting spirit of that title.

“One of the paths of da’wah is through the MTQ, so we are committed, between the Regional House of Representatives and the Cilegon City Government going forward, to improving achievements in the MTQ field, which must align with the JUARE slogan,” he explained.

One step that can be taken is allocating infrastructure and budget to improve facilities for faith and piety that support the achievements of the Cilegon MTQ contingent in the upcoming Banten competition.

“In terms of facilities, we must prepare the best, possibly by holding a quarantine at the Cilegon Islamic Center. So that training is specifically focused on the competition branches, and if necessary, cadre formation or training could start six months earlier, making preparations more thorough,” he concluded.

The name reflects the city’s deep-rooted history as a center for Islamic education, where generations of “santri” (students of Islamic studies) have studied traditional and modern religious knowledge. This identity was officially recognized by the Indonesian government in 2018, celebrating Jombang’s role in preserving and spreading moderate Islamic teachings across the archipelago.
