South Tangerang Police have revealed that the explosion on Talas 2 Street, Pondok Cabe Ilir, Pamulang, was caused by gas accumulating in a closed room.

After processing the crime scene, it was determined that a 12 Kg LPG gas cylinder was suspected to have leaked and filled the room, eventually igniting.

“When the gas ignited, a fairly large explosion occurred,” he said.

Fortunately, there were no fatalities in the incident. However, there were injuries, and parts of the house were severely damaged, including shattered glass, doors blown off, and several pieces of furniture destroyed.

Firefighters, police, and a bomb squad who arrived at the location immediately secured the area and checked for any remaining gas.

Residents were also urged to be cautious of potential similar gas leaks.

“We advise the public to always check the condition of gas hoses and regulators. Ensure there is adequate ventilation when using gas cylinders inside the home,” he added.

Evidence secured at the location included a damaged gas regulator wrapped with black tape, an empty 12 kg gas cylinder, and a gas stove lever in the ‘on’ position.

In addition, there were signs of fire effects on flammable objects.

The report stated that, based on the examination, no explosive residue was found at the scene. The crime scene processing was declared complete and followed by the handover of the official report.
