An 8-year-old boy named AMR was reportedly swept away by the current in a drainage canal in the Pamulang Estate area, East Pamulang Subdistrict, Pamulang District, Tangerang City, on Sunday afternoon.

The incident was confirmed to have occurred, according to reports received by local authorities. The incident reportedly began around 2:30 PM.

At that time, the victim was playing in the rain near the edge of the drainage canal where water was flowing rapidly.

“It is suspected that the victim’s sandal fell into the water flow, and when trying to retrieve it, the victim slipped and was swept away by the current until submerged,” the report stated.

Several friends of the victim who witnessed the incident panicked and immediately sought help from nearby residents. As of Sunday night at 10:00 PM, search efforts were still ongoing.

A joint team consisting of local emergency services, military personnel, police, fire department, potential search and rescue teams, along with numerous volunteers and local officials continued to search along the river flow for 1.5 kilometers from the point where the victim was swept away.

Authorities urged the public to be more vigilant and increase supervision of children, especially during heavy rainfall and rising water conditions.

“We remind parents not to allow children to play near water channels or rivers during rain. Strong currents are very dangerous,” the statement concluded.
