Personnel from the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Deli Serdang Police Criminal Investigation Department have arrested a suspect in the sexual harassment of a junior high school student in Deli Serdang. The suspect, identified as MK (32), is a physical education teacher and a resident of Tanjung Morawa District.
It was reported that the suspect initially fled after learning that the victim’s parents had filed a complaint at the Deli Serdang Police Station.
The suspect was later apprehended on Friday (18/7/2025) at 12:00 PM local time while in Sekip Village, Lubukpakam District.
The teacher from one of the junior high schools has been charged under Article 81 Paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 76D, alternatively Article 82 Paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 76E of Law No. 17 of 2016 concerning the enactment of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law No. 01 of 2016 on the second amendment to Law No. 23 of 2002 on Child Protection.
According to the report, the victim, a junior high school student, was heading home with friends after attending a swimming practice session at a pool owned by the Deli Serdang Regency Government on Wednesday (26/2/2025).
Along with two friends, the victim rode in a car with the suspect and his acquaintance, who were also heading home.
After one student got off at their school complex, four people remained in the car: the suspect, his friend who was driving, and two female students.
When another student exited, the suspect moved to the back seat next to the victim, while his friend was told to sit beside the driver.
While passing through Jalan Desa Tumpatan in Beringin District, the suspect MK hugged the victim and sexually harassed her by groping her chest and making advances.
It was reported that the teacher had sexually harassed the victim multiple times.
Unable to tolerate the abuse, the victim’s parents, accompanied by the victim, filed a report with the Deli Serdang Police.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to committing sexual harassment only once.
