Satria Muda Pertamina Jakarta and Pelita Jaya Basketball Jakarta are under heavy pressure in the 2026 IBL semifinals. Both teams must secure a win in Game 2 to avoid falling further behind before the series moves to the opposing team’s home court.

The semifinal round of this IBL season started with surprises in the first games. At the Bandung Arena on Friday, June 5, 2026, Bogor Hornbills successfully stole an important victory over Satria Muda with a score of 99-93.

This result gave the Hornbills a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series and opened up the chance to make history by eliminating one of the most successful clubs in IBL history.

Meanwhile, in the other semifinal, defending champions Dewa United Banten managed to steal a victory at Pelita Jaya’s home court. Playing at PJ Arena in Jakarta on Saturday, June 6, 2026, Dewa United won narrowly 78-76 and took a 1-0 lead in the series.

“Both teams have equal quality. Both teams are built for the championship title race. Every game will be a tight and fierce battle. We must be ready for anything,” said Dewa United coach Agusti Julbe Bosch in a written statement on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

The losses in Game 1 put Satria Muda and Pelita Jaya in a difficult position. Both teams were the hosts for the first two games of the semifinals. Therefore, losing again in Game 2 would leave them trailing 0-2 before the series moves to the opponents’ home courts.

This situation would clearly make their path to the finals much harder. Game 2 of the semifinals will take place on Sunday, June 7 and Monday, June 8, with immense pressure on both Satria Muda and Pelita Jaya.

New Format Makes Competition Even Fiercer

This season, the IBL has implemented a new best-of-five format for the semifinals and finals. The format uses a home-home-away-away-home system for the team with a better regular-season record.

As a result, every game becomes crucial because a single loss can significantly change the direction of the series. In addition to the quality of play, teams are also required to have squad depth, consistent performance, and the ability to adapt throughout the series.

This situation was already evident from Game 1, when two favorites, Satria Muda and Pelita Jaya, suffered defeats on their home courts.
